Asset Update: Mamata Banerjee's Wealth Declines Slightly.webp

Kolkata, April 8 West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared assets worth Rs 15.37 lakh in her affidavit for the 2026 Assembly elections from Bhabanipur, reflecting a marginal decline from the Rs 16.72 lakh disclosed during the elections five years ago.

Banerjee, also the supremo of the Trinamool Congress, also reported no liabilities and no criminal cases, the same as in 2021, according to the affidavit.

This shows that the value of her total movable assets stands at Rs 15,37,509.71, down by around Rs 1.3 lakh from 2021. As in previous declarations, she has not reported any immovable property in her name.

Her cash in hand has increased slightly to Rs 75,700 from Rs 69,255 in 2021, while bank deposits remain the largest component of her assets at over Rs 12.7 lakh.

Receivables such as tax deductions have reduced significantly to about Rs 40,600, compared to over Rs 1.8 lakh declared in 2021.

The value of her jewelry has seen a notable rise, with approximately 9.75 grams now valued at Rs 1.45 lakh, up from around Rs 43,800 five years ago, reflecting market appreciation.

Banerjee has again declared no investments in shares, bonds or insurance policies, and no ownership of vehicles.

Her income, however, has shown an upward trend. The affidavit records a total income of Rs 23.21 lakh for 2024-25, compared to Rs 10.34 lakh reported in 2019-20 in the previous affidavit. Income in intervening years has remained in the range of Rs 15 lakh to nearly Rs 30 lakh.

She continues to list her profession as social work and politics, with sources of income including royalty and interest.

Banerjee had contested the 2021 Assembly polls from Nandigram, where she was defeated by Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP. Later, she won a by-election in Bhabanipur.

In the 2026 elections, she is contesting from Bhabanipur, where Adhikari is again her opponent.
