ATP Rankings Update: Sinner’s Victory Tightens Race for No. 1.webp

New Delhi, March 16: Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has narrowed the gap with Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Rankings following a stunning performance at the Indian Wells Open, where he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the finals to win his first title and start the season on a winning note.

Sinner has moved up to No. 2 with 11,400 points. He gained 1000 points after his victory in Indian Wells. Despite losing to Medvedev in the semi-finals, Alcaraz remains at the top with 13,550 points. However, the difference between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions has been reduced to just 2150 points.

Novak Djokovic, who was defeated by Jack Draper in the round of 16, is now ranked No. 3 with 5370 points. However, he is far behind Alcaraz and Sinner.

Alexander Zverev has closed the gap with Djokovic for the third spot, gaining 350 points and now holds the No. 4 position with 4905 points. Given that Djokovic is expected to miss the Miami Open, Zverev could potentially move up to the No. 3 position after the tournament.

There have been a few changes in the top 10, with Felix Auger-Aliassime moving up to No. 8, while Ben Shelton drops to No. 9. Medvedev also returns to the top 10 after his impressive run to the final.

Sinner also achieved a significant milestone by defeating Medvedev 6-7(4), 7-6(4) in the Indian Wells Open final, becoming only the third man in history to complete the set of six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles.

Sinner was impressive throughout the tournament, winning all his matches without dropping a set. This 24-year-old also became the first man to win consecutive Masters 1000 titles without losing a set since the series began in 1990.
