Attempted Suicide Sparks Investigation in Tribal Community.webp

Sehore, February 22 A 26-year-old tribal woman attempted suicide in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday by pouring petrol on herself and setting herself on fire. However, villagers in the area prevented her from succeeding, according to a police official.

She was admitted to the civil hospital in Bhairunda in a critical condition and was subsequently transferred to a medical facility in Bhopal for advanced treatment, Police Superintendent Deepak Shukla told reporters.

"Vinita Uike set herself on fire outside her parents' house in Ladkui town, about 50 kilometers from the district headquarters, by pouring petrol and lighting a matchstick. She is the wife of Sunil Uike, who lives in another village under the Rehti police station area, although she has been living in Ladkui for some time," the SP said.

Her statement has been recorded by an executive magistrate (naib tehsildar), Shukla said, adding that further investigation into the reasons for her actions is underway.
