March 26, New Delhi: Australia has banned visitors from Iran, citing increased risk that travelers may overstay their visas amid the ongoing war in West Asia.
The Department of Home Affairs stated that for the next six months, individuals traveling on Iranian passports will be barred from visiting Australia for tourism or work. Some exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, including for the parents of Australian citizens.
Tensions escalated earlier this month when Australia granted asylum to seven players and officials from Iran's visiting women's football team, angering Tehran.
