
Mumbai, March 16 A committee headed by senior officials from the Urban Development and Health departments will review hospitals and nursing homes in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, and will take action against unauthorized establishments, the legislative council was told on Monday.
In a written response to a question, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that Maharashtra has 1,949 hospitals and nursing homes.
Responding to a question by BJP MLC Chitra Wagh, Industries Minister Uday Samant said a committee headed by the additional chief secretary of the Urban Development department, or the principal secretary of the Health department, will review hospitals and nursing homes.
They will take appropriate action against unauthorized nursing homes, said Samant, who has been authorized to respond to queries related to the Urban Development department.
He added that the panel will also include the health director, divisional commissioners, and inspector generals of police. A report will be presented to the House in the next session.
Samant stated that Mumbai has 1,371 registered nursing homes, and action has been taken against 35 unauthorized establishments.
