Auto Component Sector Faces Production Impact from Cooking Gas Shortage.webp

New Delhi, March 16 Auto component manufacturers are facing a potential workforce migration to their hometowns due to a shortage of LPG cylinders, which could impact production. The situation, while not as severe as the COVID pandemic, could escalate if not resolved, ACMA said on Monday.

The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) represents over 1,064 manufacturers, contributing more than 90 per cent of the organized sector's turnover in the auto component industry.

"Workers have switched to smaller, gas-powered burners for cooking due to the discouragement of using wood due to air pollution. Now, with the shortage of LPG cylinders, they are finding it difficult to cook at home, and some factory canteens have also been closed, forcing them to return to their hometowns," ACMA Director General Vinnie Mehta told
