New Delhi, April 2 The Public Works Department (PWD) is constructing a large decorative bird enclosure at the entrance of the Delhi Secretariat.
The installation, which will be located at Gate No. 6, opposite the reception area, is designed to create a calming atmosphere through the gentle sounds of birds.
"The structure is being built using a combination of three types of marble and mild steel, which gives it both durability and visual appeal," an official said.
According to the plan, the aviary will be located in an open space beneath a road ramp, and the enclosure is expected to be completed within a month.
In the past few months, the department has undertaken a series of maintenance and refurbishment projects across the complex, focusing not only on structural upkeep but also on improving the quality of shared spaces.
Located near the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the secretariat houses the offices of the chief minister, cabinet ministers, and senior bureaucrats. However, the building has long faced challenges related to limited space and fragmented office layouts, which often affect administrative efficiency and employee comfort.
The ongoing upgrades, although modest in scale, reflect a growing recognition within the administration of the need for more conducive and engaging workspaces. By incorporating elements that reduce stress and enhance visual appeal, officials hope to create an atmosphere that supports productivity and well-being.
At the same time, the government is considering a proposal for a new secretariat complex at Indraprastha Estate, which envisions two 35-story towers equipped with modern infrastructure and integrated facilities. While a consultancy tender for the project was floated in December 2021, it has yet to see significant progress.
