February 27, Srinagar: The Awantipora Municipal Committee has launched intensive joint market-checking drives to ensure the quality and safety of essential commodities and regulate food prices during the holy month of Ramadan.

This initiative follows directions from Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, who called for strict monitoring to prevent overpricing, hoarding, and the sale of substandard food items during the month.

Joint teams comprising officials from the Awantipora Municipal Committee and other concerned departments are inspecting markets, grocery stores, meat shops, and other establishments to verify compliance with food safety standards and government-approved price lists.

Officials said strict action will be taken against violators found engaging in unfair trade practices.

The administration has urged shopkeepers to maintain hygiene, prominently display price lists, and cooperate with inspection teams to ensure a transparent market environment during Ramadan.

The district administration reiterated its commitment to protecting consumer interests and ensuring the availability of quality essential items at fair prices throughout the month.
