Naya Gaon (Mohali), April 9 Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed confidence on Thursday that the people of Punjab have made up their minds to bring his party to power in 2027, citing "immense public support".
Badal further claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party would not win even a single seat out of the total 117 assembly constituencies. He also criticized the Congress over the alleged infighting among its leaders.
The Punjab assembly elections are due early next year.
"The kind of enthusiasm I am seeing and how people are associating with us in a big way... all Punjabis have made up their mind that if the state is to be saved, then (they must) bring the Akali Dal, the regional party, to power," Badal said, while speaking to reporters here.
"A wave has started (in favour of Akali Dal). I urge the people of Punjab to bless us, and we will turn the state into a new Punjab," Badal said.
He said that the Punjabis were bestowing trust in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) with its 'Punjab Bachao' rallies receiving a massive response.
"The party is headed to win 100 seats in the upcoming assembly elections and form the next government," he added.
Earlier, Naya Gaon Nagar Council president Balwinder Kaur, along with four BJP councillors, joined the Shiromani Akali Dal, Badal said.
Other senior leaders who joined the party included Gurdhyan Singh, who is the husband of Council President Balwinder Kaur, as well as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Jaspreet Singh Sandhu and Congress councillor Rinku.
"The BJP leaders took the decision to join the SAD because the party alone has done the development of Naya Gaon when in power," Badal said in a statement, adding that he was committed to the development of the town.
"The work of our previous government speaks for itself. We created New Chandigarh and put Mohali on the world map by establishing an international airport in the city," Badal added.
