
Guwahati, March 19 The opposition AIUDF announced its third list of six candidates for the Assam elections on Thursday.
The Badruddin Ajmal-led party has so far nominated candidates for 27 constituencies.
Former MLAs Sheikh Shah Alam and Ali Akbar Miah have been fielded in Jaleswar and Birsing-Jarua, respectively.
Abdul Salam Shah has been nominated in Mankachar, Farhad Ali in Bhawanipur-Sorbhog, Minar Hussain Mazarbhuiya in Sonai, and Choudhury Hibbur Rasul Usama Mabrur in Karimganj North.
Ajmal's name was announced earlier as the candidate for the Binnakandi constituency.
The AIUDF is not part of any opposition alliance, although it had attempted to join the Congress-led bloc.
In the outgoing assembly, the ruling BJP has 64 MLAs, while its allies AGP has nine, UPPL has seven, and BPF has three.
In the opposition camp, the Congress has 26 MLAs, AIUDF has 15, and CPI(M) has one MLA. There is also an Independent legislator.
The elections to the 126-member assembly will be held on April 9, and the votes will be counted on May 4.
