New Delhi, March 17 In a direct attack on the Centre, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Saugata Roy accused Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday of prioritizing "glamorous" high-speed trains while neglecting those serving the poor.
Participating in the discussion on the demands for grants from the railway ministry for 2026-27, Roy stated that many projects initiated during the tenure of former Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee have remained incomplete.
This comes amidst intense political maneuvering between the TMC and the BJP ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.
Drawing a parallel to a literary work, Roy compared the railway minister to the dual characters in Robert Louis Stevenson's novella, "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde."
"Dr. Jekyll represents the good minister undertaking beneficial projects, while Mr. Hyde neglects the basic needs of the poor who travel by train," Roy said.
"The minister's focus should shift from high-speed, glamorous trains to those serving the poor," Roy added.
