March 21, New Delhi – India is intensifying its science-based wildlife conservation efforts. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav chaired the 27th Annual General Meeting of the Wildlife Institute of India Society at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy in Dehradun on Saturday.
The meeting reviewed progress on key conservation initiatives and assessed the implementation of decisions from the previous session.
Updates included flagship species recovery programmes such as the reintroduction of cheetahs, the conservation breeding of the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard, and long-term monitoring of wildlife crossings along major infrastructure corridors.
These efforts highlight India's integrated approach to balancing development with biodiversity conservation – an issue of global importance as countries work to protect endangered species and maintain ecological connectivity amid expanding infrastructure.
