
Ballia (UP), March 25 Two construction workers were killed, while another sustained serious injuries after an iron reinforcement structure collapsed during the construction of a bridge here on Wednesday, police said.
The incident occurred in Madhubani village under the Ubhaon police station area near the Turtipar bridge site around 10:30 am, where a new bridge is under construction.
According to police, the workers were securing iron rods for a pillar when the structure collapsed, trapping three workers – Pappu (30), Amit (29) and Jugal (21) – under the debris.
Station House Officer Sanjay Shukla said the workers were rescued using a JCB machine and rushed to the community health centre in Siar, where doctors declared Pappu and Amit dead.
Both deceased were residents of Khairapurwa village in the Dharhara police station area of Lakhimpur Kheri district, he said.
The injured worker, Jugal, a resident of Madhepura in Pilibhit district, was referred to the district hospital in a critical condition, police said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further legal proceedings are underway, they added.
