
Banda (UP), February 27 A woman threw her five-year-old daughter into the Yamuna River on Friday following a dispute with her mother, and then attempted to jump into the river herself before bystanders intervened, police said.
A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been dispatched from Prayagraj to search for the girl in the river, they added.
Circle Officer Saurabh Singh said the incident took place in the Marka police station area of Banda district around 5 pm on Friday, when Rubina Yadav (30) threw her five-year-old daughter, Pinky, into the Yamuna.
As she tried to jump into the river herself, some alert bystanders stopped her, the officer said.
During questioning, Rubina said she had been living at her maternal home in Usra Dera with Pinky and her seven-year-old son, Chintu, for the last five years after a dispute with her in-laws.
She allegedly took the step after an argument with her mother.
