Bangar Predicts 'Cracker of a Season' for Rajasthan's Suryavanshi.webp

New Delhi, March 31 – Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s sensational debut in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) has already generated buzz, with former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar predicting a successful season for the teenage sensation after Rajasthan Royals’ dominant eight-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings on Monday.

Despite being dismissed for a duck, Suryavanshi impressed with a rapid 50 from 15 balls – the third fastest in IPL history – with four fours and five sixes, helping RR reach 74 without loss in the Powerplay. Although he was soon out for 52, the impact was significant.

“Vaibhav Suryavanshi was exceptional. He dominated a strong bowling attack. He challenged Matt Henry, a new-ball bowler known for his ability to trouble top batters internationally. He also effectively handled Khaleel Ahmed, who bowls with variations. He successfully dismissed Anshul Kamboj, known for his powerful shots. He even managed to contain Noor Ahmad, a mystery bowler.

"At the age of 15, he dominated four experienced bowlers with his fearless batting and forced them to adjust their strategies. Henry had to bowl slower deliveries. Khaleel had to experiment. He put pressure on all of them. This shows that Vaibhav is understanding the game at a very high level. I was very impressed with his performance. This debut performance suggests that he is going to have a great season,” Bangar said on Jio Star.

Former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim also praised the young player, highlighting both his aggression and growing maturity.

“Vaibhav Suryavanshi started the 2026 IPL season with the same energy as he did last season. He showed aggressive batting skills. It was great to watch him execute his shots. He displayed maturity in his innings, targeting the right deliveries, and he achieved a strike rate of over 250. As he progresses at this level, he will become even better.

"He is becoming very wise now, and one can see the wisdom in his shot selection. His intent remains the same. He shows aggression, and he always tries to clear the boundary whenever he gets a chance, whether against a fast or spin bowler,” Karim said.

While Suryavanshi shone with the bat, Rajasthan’s bowlers set the stage earlier in the evening, with Nandre Burger playing a crucial role in dismantling CSK’s top order.

England pacer Jofra Archer began by swinging the ball both ways to trouble Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over. Nandre Burger then made the first breakthrough by dismissing Samson for 6 with a delivery that turned away and hit the off-stump.

Archer returned to remove Gaikwad in his second over – the CSK captain backed away to access the off-side but missed a straight ball and was bowled for 6. Burger intensified the collapse in the third over as Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for a duck – gloving a bouncer to keeper Dhruv Jurel, as RR won the decision on review.

Karim explained what made the left-arm pacer so effective on the night. “Nandre Burger bowls quickly, and his line and length were very accurate. He bowled a special delivery to dismiss Sanju Samson. It was a natural variation that took the ball away from Samson. He surprised Ayush Mhatre with his sharp bouncer.

"Left-arm pacers are generally effective in bowling such deliveries. Plus, since he bowls so quickly, he puts pressure on the batter and catches them off guard with unexpected deliveries. On a Guwahati pitch that favoured pacers, Burger stuck to good length deliveries, which proved very effective for him.”

Bangar also pointed out how Rajasthan’s new-ball pairing of Burger and Jofra Archer set the tone early, removing key CSK batters in quick succession.

"RR's new-ball bowlers Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer had a good outing against the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both are quality batters and have the ability to take the game away from the opposition. But the way Archer and Burger bowled in tandem was really impressive. Both were getting a lot of movement from the pitch, and the left-hand and right-hand bowling angles created problems for CSK's opening pair.

"Once you get Sanju Samson out and then immediately in the next over, you get the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad, it's a bonus. These two are the most established batters of CSK, on whom the entire CSK batting lineup depends. Getting these Powerplay wickets is extremely crucial for any bowler to establish their dominance and gain an advantage in the game. It went very well for RR,” Bangar said.
