Following the collapse of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has ordered a fresh review of all cases filed after August 5, 2024. He stated that the move aims to protect innocent citizens from harassment. Speaking to reporters after a three-hour meeting with heads of departments and law enforcement agencies at the secretariat yesterday, the Minister said that the police have been instructed to re-examine the lawsuits and submit a report to the government.
He warned that action would also be taken against police personnel if they were found to be involved in harassment. Addressing issues related to law and order, Minister Ahmed stated that highways could not be blocked and that grievances must be pursued through legal means. Responding to comments made by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, the Home Minister said that everyone has the right to express their views and assured that the constitutional rights of all citizens would be upheld.
