
Hoshiarpur (Punjab), March 23 A 48-year-old bank guard accidentally shot himself while cleaning his double-barreled gun in Talwara town here on Monday, police said.
Gurmail Singh, a native of Maddipur village under the Dasuya Police Station limits, is a security guard at a Punjab National Bank branch in Talwara.
According to police, the incident occurred around 1 pm when Gurmail Singh was cleaning his gun. Bank officials rushed him to the BBMB Hospital, from where he was referred to a hospital in Jalandhar after receiving first aid.
Dasuya Deputy Superintendent of Police Balwinder Singh, who visited the spot, said that preliminary investigation suggested the incident was accidental.
"All the pellets from the double-barreled gun hit the guard on the left side of his body. Further action will be taken after recording his statement and examining the CCTV footage," the officer said.
