Barpeta Satra prepares for a five-day Doul Utsav

The traditional Doul Utsav, dedicated to Lord Krishna, will be held at the historic Barpeta Satra from March 2 for five days. Extensive preparations are underway at the Satra to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival.

Cleaning and renovation work are being carried out to give the Satra a fresh look. The festival will formally begin on the evening of March 2 with the ceremonial Gondh programme.

According to Dr. Babul Chandra Das, a senior Satriya at the Barpeta Satra, the Bhar Doul will be observed for three days this year, based on astrological calculations. Bhar Doul will be celebrated on March 3, 4, and 5, while the famous Phakuwa or Holi festival of Barpeta will be held on March 6.

Thousands of devotees and visitors attend the Doul Utsav every year. Pradeep Pathak, the General Secretary of the Satra Management Committee, said that comprehensive arrangements have been made to welcome devotees and ensure the festival is conducted peacefully.
