New Delhi, March 19 A subsidiary of Coal India, BCCL, announced on Thursday that it had achieved a record single-day booking of approximately 2.37 lakh tonnes of coal under its special discount scheme, aimed at clearing existing stockpiles.
Under the scheme, discounts ranging from ₹100 to ₹600 per tonne were offered across various categories, which received a positive response from consumers.
During the e-auction conducted on Wednesday, under rail mode, around 1.80 lakh tonnes of coal were booked across 45 rakes, while road mode bookings stood at approximately 56,850 tonnes, bringing the total to 2,36,850 tonnes.
The strong demand, particularly through rail, is expected to boost key sectors like steel and core industries, Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) said in a filing to BSE.
The strong response reflects the effectiveness of the company's consumer-centric policies, it said, adding that the higher booking through rail mode is expected to support key sectors such as steel and core industries.
BCCL plays a crucial role in fueling the nation's steel sector, which heavily relies on coal for its production and manufacturing processes. The company manages an extensive network of open-pit and underground mines across Jharkhand and West Bengal, with a particular focus on the Jharia Coalfield.
