
Ayodhya (UP), March 10 A 55-year-old devotee died and two others were injured after a swarm of bees attacked people who had gathered at a temple complex during a weekly fair in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district on Tuesday, police said.
The incident occurred at the Aughad Baba temple in the Nursery Bazar area. According to the police, a swarm of bees suddenly emerged from a large hive inside the temple complex and attacked Sant Ram (55), a resident of Kuthma Rajpur village. Two other devotees – Basant Lal of Jivat village and Ramvilas of Golpur – were also seriously injured.
There was panic in the temple premises as devotees ran for cover to escape the bees.
Officials said a large crowd had gathered in the temple due to a weekly fair held there on Tuesdays.
Jalalpur Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Pandey said an ambulance rushed the injured to the Community Health Centre in Baskhari, where doctors declared Sant Ram dead after examination.
The other injured were given primary treatment at the hospital and are now out of danger, he said.
The incident comes weeks after a similar bee attack in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district.
In February, a 65-year-old umpire, Manik Gupta, died and around 15-20 players were injured when a swarm of bees descended during a cricket match at Sapru Maidan in Shuklaganj area of Unnao district.
Gupta later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in nearby Kanpur.
