Beed, March 13 Jairam Chate, an accused in the Beed sarpanch murder case, was allowed to leave jail on Friday, as per court orders, to participate in the 12th-day ritual of his younger brother, who died on March 2, an official said.

Chate has been in prison for the past 14 months for his alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in the district in December 2024.

According to the court order from last week, Chate was permitted to leave prison under strict police protection between 9 am and 4 pm to attend the 12th day ritual of his younger brother, Shriram Chate.

Jairam Chate was escorted with heavy police security to his hometown, Tambwa village in Kaij tehsil, during the day, the official said.

"The entire cost of travel and security arrangements will be borne by Chate. After completing the ritual, he will be taken back to the Beed district jail," the official said.
