Beed, March 18 A 55-year-old teacher from a private school reportedly committed suicide in the Beed district of Maharashtra, apparently due to frustration over his unpaid salary, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased, Kailas Ughade, a resident of Ardhamasla in the Georai tehsil of Beed, was found hanging at his residence on March 14, they said.
He was an assistant teacher at a private secondary school in Sirasdevi, also in Georai.
Police recovered a two-page suicide note from the scene, in which the deceased explicitly blamed two individuals for his decision. Based on the note and a complaint filed by the victim's father, the police registered an FIR on March 17 against two individuals, identified as Gorkar and Shriram Shelke.
In the note recovered by investigators, Ughade claimed that his February salary had been withheld by the two, leading him to take the extreme step.
Initial investigations suggest that the victim was experiencing severe mental stress due to sudden financial difficulties, said police sub-inspector and investigation officer Swapnil Koli.
The police have booked Gorkar and Shelke under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetting suicide, he added, noting that an investigation is underway to determine the exact roles of the accused.
The incident has caused shock within the teaching community in Beed, with local teachers' unions demanding strict action against those who harass staff over administrative matters.
