Bengal Assembly Elections: Left Front to Contest Majority of Seats.webp

Kolkata, April 1 – The Left Front announced on Wednesday that it has reached an agreement with the ISF and CPI(ML) Liberation to contest the West Bengal state assembly elections.

According to the seat-sharing agreement reached among these groups, the ISF will contest 30 seats and CPI(ML) Liberation will field candidates in eight assembly constituencies, Left Front chairman Biman Bose said in a statement.

He said that the Left Front will field candidates in 252 of the 294 seats in the state, with the CPI(M) contesting 195 seats, All India Forward Bloc 23, CPI and RSP 16 each, and RCPI and Marxist Forward Bloc one each.

The announcement follows extensive discussions among the Left Front, ISF and CPI(ML) Liberation regarding seat allocation.

"In the current political situation, this election presents both a challenge and an opportunity," Bose said.

Bose also stated that the Left Front will support one candidate from the West Bengal Socialist Party and three candidates from other "democratic and social" organizations as associates.

The state assembly elections will be held on April 23 and 29, and the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.

The Left Front had failed to win any seats in the 2021 state assembly elections, while the Indian Secular Front (ISF) managed to win one seat.
