Alipurduar (WB), April 8 BJP chief Nitin Nabin on Wednesday alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led government had taken land that rightfully belonged to the people of West Bengal and given it to infiltrators, thereby changing the state's demographics.
Addressing an election rally in Alipurduar, North Bengal, he said that once the BJP forms a "double-engine" government in West Bengal, it will rectify the demographic changes and expel Bangladeshi infiltrators from the state.
"The Mamata Banerjee government has worked to take away the land rights of the people of West Bengal and give them to the infiltrators, thereby changing the state's demographics," Nabin said.
He accused the Trinamool Congress government of "distorting the identity of West Bengal and altering its demographics." He alleged that the residents of Bengal were being "forced" to leave the state due to the TMC's appeasement politics and lawlessness.
He accused the TMC of forcing the state's people to leave and helping Bangladeshi infiltrators to settle in Bengal.
Asserting that West Bengal holds a special place in the heart of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP chief said, "Development is stagnating in Bengal. The TMC government has altered the state's identity and demographics."
"It was the Congress first, then the Left, and now the TMC. The state, which once led the country in every field – from industries to culture – is now shrouded in darkness," Nabin alleged.
