Betul (Madhya Pradesh), February 19 – A 25-year-old man allegedly killed his parents and younger brother in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, leaving his 5-year-old nephew critically injured, police said.
The incident took place in Sangva village, within the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station, about 10 kilometers from the district headquarters, an official added.
Deepak Dhurve, who neighbors say is mentally unstable, killed his father, Raju alias Hansu Dhurve (55), his mother, Kamalti Dhurve (40), and his brother, Dilip Dhurve (20), according to Superintendent of Police Virendra Kumar Jain.
Deepak also attacked his 5-year-old nephew, Prashant Parte, whose condition is critical.
"Neighbors noticed something was wrong because no one had come out of the house by afternoon. No one was answering the door either. When the neighbors broke the door open, they found Deepak sitting quietly near the three bodies, as well as the carcass of a cat, which may also have been killed by him," he said.
Neighbors have told police that Deepak has been mentally unstable for several years and had recently returned from medical treatment in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Neighbors have also claimed that Deepak is the eldest in the family, is intelligent, and has also appeared for a recruitment exam conducted by security forces.
Devkaran Daheria, the in-charge of the Kotwali police station, told
"The iron rods and sticks found at the murder scene have been confiscated. We will only be able to determine his mental state after examining his medical records," Daheria said.
