Bhadohi (UP), March 15 A case has been registered against a young man in the Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh on charges of making derogatory remarks on social media against 'Maa Karni', the deity of the Rajput community, a police official said on Sunday.
The police said that in connection with this matter, a case was registered on Saturday at the Chauri police station against Sachin Sonkar under sections 196(1) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony), 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the BNS, based on a complaint filed by Raghavendra Pratap Singh, the district president of the Bhadohi Kshatriya Karni Sena.
SHO of Chauru, Ram Sarikh Gautam, citing the case registered, said that the posts made on various social media platforms on Saturday allegedly used highly derogatory language regarding Maa Karni.
Gautam informed that Singh, in his written complaint submitted to the police station regarding this matter, said that Sonkar's remarks have deeply offended numerous Rajput organisations, raising concerns that such actions could potentially trigger caste-based violence in the district.
He added that screenshots and videos of the social media content in question have been obtained, and a search for the accused is currently underway.
