Bhadohi (UP), March 20 A 58-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his six-year-old granddaughter at their home here, police said on Friday.
The man was caught in the act by his family members, but managed to escape when the family took the girl to the hospital, police said.
Station House Officer, Kotwali, Sachchidanand Pandey, said that around 5 am on March 17, the girl's family members, who were on the ground floor, heard her screaming and rushed upstairs to find her grandfather forcing himself on her.
The girl's family then rushed her to the hospital. Seizing the opportunity, the accused fled the scene, Pandey said.
After the child's condition improved, her father filed a written complaint against his father late on Thursday night. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 65 (2) (committing rape on a woman under 12 years of age) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SHO said.
The accused, who was hiding at a relative's place, was arrested on Thursday based on a tip-off, Pandey said.
