Bihar Authorities Intensify Efforts After Hooch Deaths.webp

Saran (Bihar), March 12 In yet another instance of suspected hooch-related death in Bihar, where the sale of alcohol is prohibited, at least one resident of the Saran district died several days after allegedly consuming spurious liquor, an official said on Thursday.

Saran District Magistrate Vaibhava Srivastava said the man died at a hospital in Patna, where he had been taken after falling ill, and the body has been sent for post-mortem.

"The exact cause of death can only be determined after the post-mortem and viscera reports," he said.

The deceased was a resident of the Panapur police station area.

The DM, however, said, "The district administration and other concerned officials have further intensified preventive measures to check the sale and manufacturing of liquor in the district, if any."

Another person mysteriously died in the Mashrakh locality of the district on Tuesday. Villagers even claim that one more death occurred in the Panapur locality on Thursday.

However, the DM insisted that "so far we are only taking into account the incident reported from Panapur, for which we have sent the body for post-mortem examination".

"As far as the Mashrakh incident is concerned, we have no information about the mysterious death of a person," he said, adding that family members had already cremated the deceased without informing the police.

The Nitish Kumar-led government imposed a total ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state on April 5, 2016.
