
New Delhi, March 31 President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday expressed her condolences over the loss of lives in a stampede at a temple in Bihar and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
At least eight devotees, mostly women, were killed and five injured in the stampede at the Sheetla Mata temple in the Nalanda district on Tuesday.
"The news of the death of numerous devotees in a stampede at a temple in Nalanda, Bihar, is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families. I pray for the swift recovery of all those who have been injured," Murmu said in a post on X in Hindi.
The president, who is on a day-long visit to Bihar, addressed the convocation ceremony of Nalanda University in Rajgir city.
