
Jaipur, March 14 A 35-year-old man who attempted suicide by setting himself on fire with petrol near the SP office in Bikaner died on Saturday at the SMS Hospital in Jaipur, officials said.
Police said the deceased, identified as Ram Lal, succumbed to critical burn injuries on Saturday morning.
He reportedly poured petrol and set himself on fire in a corridor outside the SP office in Bikaner on Friday. Police personnel present there extinguished the flames and rushed him to the trauma center of the PBM Hospital from where he was referred to the SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
Ram Lal, a resident of the Khajuwala area of Bikaner, was sitting on a bench in a corridor near the SP office. After some time, he walked a short distance in the corridor and poured petrol over himself, setting himself on fire.
Police said he had previously filed a complaint alleging harassment by a woman. He later submitted a written letter stating that he did not want any action, according to officials.
The reasons for his return to the SP office on Friday and the circumstances leading to the incident are not clear, and the matter is under investigation, the police said.
