Bilateral Trade Discussions Between India and US

Bilateral Trade Discussions Between India and US.webp

New Delhi, March 13 The commerce ministry said on Friday that India and the US are still engaged in discussions for a mutually beneficial bilateral trade agreement.

The ministry has denied reports about a halt to bilateral engagement.

"We have noted a media report regarding ongoing trade talks with the US. We would like to clarify that there is no hold-off in bilateral engagement. We reiterate that both sides remain engaged for a mutually beneficial trade agreement," the commerce ministry said in a statement.

These remarks are significant as the United States Trade Representative (USTR) launched a fresh round of Section 301 trade investigations on March 11, targeting the policies and industrial practices of 16 economies, including India and China.

Following a decision by the US Supreme Court striking down sweeping tariffs imposed by the US administration, President Donald Trump has announced 10% tariffs on all countries for 150 days, starting from February 24.
