BJP Accuses Congress of Global Destabilization.webp

New Delhi, March 27 The BJP on Friday called the Congress "dangerous" for India's democracy, alleging that it is part of a "global nexus" which funds organizations to destabilize democracies in different parts of the world.

In a post on X, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said that Fox News has recently published an investigative story titled "Shanghai sabotage: Inside Singham's secret strategy to demonize America", highlighting how China-linked networks, involving Neville Roy Singham, are allegedly funneling millions of dollars into the US to promote Chinese propaganda in America.

"Recall when Indian agencies exposed alleged foreign funding links tied to Neville Roy Singham and NewsClick—exposing their objective to destabilize India's democracy; the Congress rushed to call it an 'attack on freedom of expression', supporting the network from 2021 raids to 2023 action," Bhandari said.

"It is becoming evidently clear that the Congress is compromised. It is part of the global nexus which funds organizations to destabilize democracy," he said, adding, "The Congress is dangerous for India's democracy and its ecosystem is evil."

There was no immediate reaction from the Congress or the NewsClick portal to the BJP spokesperson's charge.

The name of Singham, a China-based American millionaire, hit the headlines after The New York Times published an article titled "A Global Web of Chinese Propaganda Leads to a U.S. Tech Mogul" in 2023.

Following this news piece and some fresh "evidence" shared by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Delhi Police Special Cell also filed an FIR against Singham and the founders of NewsClick.

The ED recently said it has imposed a Rs 184-crore Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) penalty against NewsClick and its founder and editor-in-chief, Prabir Purkayastha, who came under the scanner of the probe agencies on allegations of peddling "pro-China propaganda" through its stories.
