Bengaluru, March 13 The BJP Karnataka president B Y Vijayendra said on Friday that the party's core committee discussed potential candidates for the upcoming by-elections in the Bagalkote and Davanagere South Assembly constituencies at a meeting of its state core committee.
According to Vijayendra, the meeting was attended by the party's Karnataka in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly and Legislative Council, and other senior leaders.
Addressing reporters, Vijayendra said, "Discussions were held in the core committee meeting regarding the candidates for the upcoming by-elections in the Bagalkote and Davanagere South Assembly constituencies."
He said the aspirations of various leaders seeking the party ticket in the two constituencies were discussed in detail, and the names considered in the meeting would be forwarded to the party's senior leadership for a final decision.
The Shikaripura MLA said the party had also resolved to work collectively to ensure victory in the forthcoming elections.
"With the aim of ensuring victory for our Legislative Council candidates and also for the party nominees in the Bagalkote and Davanagere South Assembly by-elections, it has been decided that all of us must work together in unity and put in our full effort," he said.
Vijayendra said another meeting was held with aspirants from the Davanagere South constituency along with senior leaders, including Joshi and MP Govind Karjol, where leaders were asked to set aside differences.
"We urged everyone to forget the past differences, keep aside all issues and work together unitedly to win the election," he said.
On reports of dissatisfaction among some leaders over ticket allocation, Vijayendra said the party had already held internal discussions to address concerns.
"We have spoken about it within four walls. We have called everyone together and discussed it. We have conveyed the message that everyone should forget the past and work together in the interest of the party," he said.
Referring to issues faced during the previous Lok Sabha elections in Davanagere, he expressed confidence that the situation would not repeat.
"To ensure that such a situation does not arise again, we brought together leaders from both sides today and held discussions. We are fully confident that everything will be resolved," he added.
