March 03, New Delhi — Romania is seeking to strengthen economic, educational, and research cooperation with India, Deputy Foreign Minister Clara Volintiru said during her visit to New Delhi for the Raisina Dialogue.
Describing the Raisina Dialogue as a landmark global forum comparable to leading European conferences, the Foreign Affairs Minister said Romania sees significant potential in expanding bilateral engagement.
Regarding economic cooperation, she said a comprehensive agreement between India and the European Union would facilitate business connectivity and mobility across continents. Romania, she noted, can serve as a gateway for Indian companies seeking access to Eastern and Central European markets within the EU.
She highlighted growing academic collaboration, including the participation of Romanian universities in exchange programs such as Erasmus Plus. She said discussions are underway on university partnerships, startup incubators, and joint research initiatives to boost innovation ties.
Addressing tensions in West Asia, Minister Volintiru said Romania, sharing the longest border with Ukraine amidst the ongoing war, understands the costs of conflict and supports efforts toward peace. She emphasised the importance of stability for safeguarding connectivity routes linking India and Europe.
On India's role in the Indo-Pacific, she described India as a "powerhouse" and underscored the strong historical and cultural ties between the two nations. She noted that this year marks 100 years since Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Romania, reflecting the longstanding cultural connection between the two countries.
