A training program on "Promoting Low-Cost Fish Feed for Fishery Farmers" was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba to enhance the knowledge and skills of local fish farmers on affordable and efficient feeding practices. Approximately 40 fish farmers from different areas of the Samba district participated in the program.
Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist (Agroforestry) and Head of KVK Samba, attended the program as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the importance of reducing fish production costs through the use of locally available, low-cost feed ingredients. He noted that feed constitutes a major portion of expenses in fish farming, and adopting economical feed formulations can improve farmers' profitability. He also encouraged farmers to adopt scientific aquaculture practices with technical guidance from KVK.
The program was coordinated by Akhil Gupta, who delivered a lecture on preparing low-cost fish feed using locally available materials. He explained the nutritional requirements of fish, feed formulation techniques, and practical methods to reduce feeding costs without affecting fish growth and health.
Participants were also informed about balanced feed, proper feeding schedules, and pond management practices. Farmers actively interacted with experts and appreciated KVK Samba for organizing such programs aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of fish farmers in the region.
