The Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) has reiterated its call for a non-cooperation movement and boycott of the April 9 Assam Assembly elections, particularly in the disputed areas of Block I and Block II.
Speaking to reporters here today, HBDRF chairman Chandame Sugnoh said the forum remains concerned about reports of people from Meghalaya campaigning and influencing voters in the Assam elections.
"We have seen that during elections in Assam, some individuals from our side go and campaign for parties and candidates there. This affects the ongoing process of resolving the boundary issue," he said.
According to Sugnoh, such actions go against the will of the people living in the border areas and could undermine efforts to address the long-standing dispute.
He said the decision to adopt a non-cooperation movement was first taken during a meeting at Mukroh in April 2021 and later reaffirmed at a public gathering in Jowai in May 2025. The forum also resolved in February this year to boycott the upcoming Assam Assembly polls.
Appealing to residents of Block I and Block II, Sugnoh urged them to refrain from participating in the elections and to remain united in protecting their rights and interests.
