Election officials are traveling by boat to border centers in Mankachar; tight security measures are in place
As Assam prepares for the Assam Assembly election, special arrangements have been made in the riverine and border areas of the South Salmara Mankachar district to ensure smooth and secure voting.
Election officials have set off in motorized boats to reach four sensitive polling stations located along the India-Bangladesh border. These stations, situated in open river stretches and char (riverine) areas, are considered highly vulnerable. Authorities have put in place stringent security measures to ensure peaceful polling in these remote locations.
Mankachar, with 402 polling stations, has seen extensive preparations. Of these, 56 polling stations have been identified as sensitive. The four most critical centers are located along the western bank of the Brahmaputra in char areas near the international border.
Polling and presiding officers have already begun their journey to these locations, crossing the Brahmaputra in motorized boats arranged by the district administration. Security forces are accompanying them to maintain strict vigilance.
Earlier in the day, election materials were distributed to officials for all 402 polling stations, after which they departed for their respective centers. The district administration, in coordination with the police, has established robust security arrangements to ensure that voting is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
