Kamalanagar, February 23, 2026: A two-member delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), consisting of Shri Durjya Dhan Chakma, District President, and Shri Doyal Chandra Dewan, Vice President, has formally submitted a representation to the Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram regarding the illegal and provocative erection of a boundary pillar by the Central Young Lai Association (CYLA).
It has been reported that on February 13, 2026, members of the Central Young Lai Association visited the Parva village under the Chakma Autonomous District Council and erected a boundary pillar declaring the area as belonging to the Lai Autonomous District Council. This unilateral action has caused deep resentment and strong condemnation among the people of CADC.
Shri Durjya Dhan Chakma stated that such an act is not only unwarranted but also highly provocative, as it threatens the long-standing peaceful coexistence and brotherhood between the Chakma and Lai communities. He emphasized that any boundary-related matter must be resolved strictly through constitutional and administrative mechanisms, not through unilateral actions by any organization.
It may be recalled that during 1972–1977, following the reorganization of the Pawi-Lakher Autonomous Region, a joint boundary verification was conducted by the Chakma Autonomous District Council and the Lai Autonomous District Council. The then Chief Executive Member of CADC, Shri Nilmoni Chakma, represented CADC during the demarcation process, and no dispute was reported at that time. The boundary on the eastern side was clearly defined in the Pawi-Lakher Autonomous Region (Re-organization) Order, 1972, following a natural boundary marked by the stream Sanghatuilo Lui (Rangapanisora in Chakma), supported by Survey Height Point 405.
Shri Chakma has urged the Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram to order a thorough investigation into the matter and to take immediate steps to remove the illegally erected boundary pillar in order to prevent any escalation of tension. He further appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace, harmony, and communal unity while the matter is being addressed by the competent authority. The Hon’ble Governor gave a patient hearing and assured that necessary steps would be taken at the earliest.
The BJP, CADC, reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding constitutional provisions, protecting the territorial integrity of CADC, and preserving the peaceful relationship among all communities in Mizoram.
