Los Angeles, March 23 – The legendary Sir Paul McCartney has revealed that he reconciled with John Lennon, and their shared love of baking was the catalyst for their friendship.
The pair's relationship became strained around the time of The Beatles' split in 1970, but Paul has now spoken about how the childhood friends reconnected in the years after the breakup, according to 'Female First UK'.
Speaking in Audible's new Words + Music series, "The Man on the Run," Paul explained that the pair began talking about fatherhood after John welcomed son Sean in 1975, and they bonded over bread.
He said, "Eventually, we were actually able to talk to each other instead of (arguing). It was more about chatting about what we were doing. John had Sean, so he was now a father, and we would talk about kids and domestic things. I had started making bread and was getting pretty good, and I started talking to him, and he was like, 'Oh yeah, I'm making bread too'."
"So, the things we had in common were just the ordinary, everyday domestic things. Somehow, that was peaceful. It was nice that we had that in common. And we weren't fighting anymore. So, I would go and visit him, and we had quite a bit of interaction, and the same with George and Ringo. It was all getting much nicer," he added.
According to 'Female First UK', Paul went on to admit that he was glad he reconciled with John before the musician was murdered in New York in 1980.
He said, "That was the only consolation when John died. Thank God that we got back together. I don't know what I would have thought if we hadn't. (If we were still warring and he got killed, I would have) lost my chance to make peace."
Mark David Chapman was convicted of killing the Beatles legend, and Paul admitted that he still struggles to comprehend the crime.
