Jammu, April 5 A junior engineer in the Power Development Department was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the Gandhi Nagar area here on Sunday for accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000, officials said.

Anirudh Sharma, who was posted as a Junior Engineer in the Sub-Division of the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (PDD) in Katra, was booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act following his arrest, an ACB spokesperson said.

He said a search was also conducted at the accused's house in Jammu's Janipur in the presence of a magistrate.

An ACB received a complaint against the public servant, alleging that he was demanding a bribe for replacing an electric meter and reducing the monthly electricity bill, the spokesperson said.

Following the complaint, a discreet investigation was conducted, which corroborated the demand for a bribe by the concerned public servant, and accordingly, a case was registered at the Police Station ACB Udhampur, and an investigation was initiated, he said.

During the course of the investigation, the spokesperson said, a team caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 as the first installment from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.

The accused was arrested on the spot, and the bribe money was also recovered from his possession, the spokesperson said.
