Amethi (Uttar Pradesh), March 20 Two individuals riding a motorcycle died after a truck hit them from behind near a village in the district, police said on Friday.

According to the police, Chandrika Prasad, 50, and Vijay Kumar, 35, both residents of Raebareli district, worked at a brick kiln in Deoria district.

While they were returning home on a motorcycle late on Thursday night, a speeding truck hit their motorcycle from behind near Mubarakpur village in the Jagdishpur area. Both men died on the spot.

Jagdishpur SHO Dhirendra Yadav said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and a case has been registered against an unidentified person under the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Police have seized the truck, while the driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, police said.
