
Puducherry, April 9 Groups of BJP and Congress workers were clashing at a polling booth in the Mannadipet Assembly Constituency during Thursday's elections, police sources said.
The incident caused a brief period of tension at the booth located in the Tirukanoor village.
When a group of BJP workers were standing near a polling booth, members of the Congress objected to their presence and stated that only voters should be present there.
Heated arguments erupted between the groups, and they began attacking each other.
Police intervened and dispersed the crowd using canes, restoring order. The police source said that the polling was not disrupted.
Puducherry Home Minister A Namassivayam (BJP) is seeking re-election from the Mannadipet constituency, while T P R Selvam, a former Deputy Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly, is contesting on a Congress ticket.
