
Shimla, March 21 Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday presented a budget of Rs 54,928 crore for 2026-27, with a revenue deficit of Rs 6,577 crore and a fiscal deficit of Rs 9,698 crore.
Presenting his fourth budget, Chief Minister Sukhu, who also holds the finance portfolio, said the budget was focused on strengthening the rural economy, addressing the needs of the "poorest of the poor," and fulfilling the promises made during the election.
Revenue receipts are estimated at Rs 40,361 crore for 2026-27, while revenue expenditure is expected to be Rs 46,938 crore, resulting in a total deficit of Rs 6,755 crore.
The 2026-27 budget pegs the fiscal deficit at Rs 9,698 crore, or 3.49 per cent of the State's Gross Domestic Product.
According to the budget, for every rupee spent, 44.14 paise will be allocated to general services, 31.46 paise to social services, 11.29 paise to economic services, 5.62 paise to capital expenditure, 8.81 paise to loan repayment, and 1.56 paise to subsidies.
Out of every Rs 100, Rs 27 will be spent on salaries, Rs 21 on pensions, Rs 13 on interest payments, Rs 9 on debt repayment, Rs 10 on grants for autonomous institutions, and Rs 20 on capital expenditure, the CM stated.
The receipts include 26.05 paise from central taxes, 28.55 paise from state taxes, 13.40 paise from grants-in-aid, 22.34 paise from loans, and 7.37 paise from non-tax revenue.
