New Delhi, April 2 The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Thursday until April 16, amid indications that the government may introduce a bill to increase seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies to implement the women's reservation law.
The Lower House was adjourned shortly after the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, was passed by voice vote.
Speaker Om Birla said this morning that he had received a request from Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to reconvene the House on April 16 for urgent government business.
He said that there would be no Question Hour, Zero Hour, or private members' business when the House reconvenes.
According to sources, the two Houses will reconvene for three days from April 16 to discuss the proposed legislation.
This was the second half of the Budget Session, and the House usually adjourns sine die at the end of it. The House usually meets in the Monsoon Session after this.
However, there have been indications from the government side that it wants the House to assemble on April 16 to pass the bills needed for the implementation of the women's quota law.
Rijiju, while speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, said that the House will meet again soon to consider a key legislation.
"We have certain bills and important issues, and we have shared this with the Opposition also. We are going to have a very important bill in the next 2-3 weeks," he said.
According to the government calendar, the House was scheduled to adjourn sine die (for an indefinite period).
