
Kabul, April 3 – Two commuters were killed and 13 others were injured when a passenger bus veered off the road in Ghazni province, eastern Afghanistan, on Friday, provincial police spokesman Khalid Sarhadi said.
The accident occurred on the main road in the Qarabagh district early Friday morning, the official said, adding that efforts are underway to locate a missing boy, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Blaming reckless driving for the accident, Sarhadi said an investigation into the incident is underway.
On March 28, one commuter was killed and 10 others were injured when a mini-bus collided with two motorists in Laghman province, eastern Afghanistan, according to a statement from the provincial police office.
The statement said that a mini-bus collided with a three-wheeled rickshaw and a motorcycle simultaneously in Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, on March 28, killing one person and injuring 10 others, including five children and two women.
All the injured commuters have been taken to the hospital for treatment, the statement said, urging drivers to respect traffic rules and regulations to avoid road accidents.
On March 1, at least three people were killed and six others were injured in a highway accident in Jawzjan province, northern Afghanistan, according to a statement from the provincial police office.
The incident occurred when two high-speed vehicles collided due to reckless driving in the Hadbakhshi region along the Jawzjan-Sari Pul highway, killing both drivers and a female passenger on the spot and injuring six others, including two children, the statement added.
The injured were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the statement, which also urged drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules to prevent further tragedies.
Deadly road accidents remain a persistent problem in war-torn Afghanistan, often attributed to deteriorating road conditions, reckless driving, and inadequate safety measures amid the country's challenging terrain and limited infrastructure.
