
Ahmedabad, March 13 A passenger was killed and six others were injured after a private luxury sleeper bus caught fire in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat in the early hours of Friday, police said.
Some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
The bus was traveling from Nachna in Rajasthan to Ahmedabad when the fire broke out in the vehicle near the Nenawa village in the Dhanera taluka around 3:30 am. The passengers were asleep at the time, police said.
Within minutes, the fire spread throughout the bus, causing panic among the passengers, a Dhanera police station official said.
To escape the flames and thick smoke, many passengers jumped out of the windows to save their lives. "Amid the chaos, one passenger was killed," the official said.
The exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
At least six passengers were injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital, the official said, adding that some of them are in critical condition.
