
Vadodara, April 10 A 60-year-old man was killed after a portion of a bus station collapsed on him in Vadodara city, Gujarat, on Friday afternoon, police said.
The structure, made of plaster of Paris (PoP) and other materials, in the upper part of the central bus station in the Sayajiganj area collapsed in the afternoon, causing debris to fall in the open passage below.
Fire brigade and police personnel launched rescue operations and extricated one person from the rubble, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Jagdish Chavda.
The injured man was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead, he said.
The area was secured to prevent further accidents and ensure the smooth movement of buses. A separate route has been opened for vehicles operating from the bus station, the official said.
Personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and other technical teams will collect samples to ascertain the cause of the collapse, he added.
"We have registered an accidental death report for now, and action will be taken if any criminal liability emerges during the investigation," he said.
