By-Election Announcement Impacts Goa's Assembly Session.webp

Panaji, March 16 Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday that the continuation of Goa's budget session will depend on the opinion of the Election Commission of India (ECI), following the announcement of a by-election for an assembly seat in the South Goa district.

The budget session of the coastal state began on March 6 at the Vidhan Sabha located in Porvorim, North Goa, and is scheduled to conclude on March 27.

The ECI announced a by-election for the Ponda assembly constituency in South Goa on April 9, necessitated following the death of the sitting BJP MLA and then agriculture minister, Ravi Naik.

The code of conduct is applicable for the entire South Goa district, Chief Minister Sawant told reporters.

"We will seek the opinion from the ECI to decide about the continuation of the assembly session," he said, when asked whether the assembly session would continue following the bypoll announcement.

The CM also expressed confidence that the ruling BJP will win the upcoming by-election.

"We are hundred per cent sure about our victory in the Ponda byelection," he added.
