
Kohima, March 23 A total of seven candidates have filed their nomination papers for the upcoming by-election to the Koridang Assembly Constituency in Nagaland, an election official said.
Polling for the constituency will be held on April 9, and vote counting will take place on May 4.
Three candidates nominated by political parties and four independent candidates submitted their documents, with the deadline for filing nominations ending on Monday, he said.
Scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 24, and the last date for withdrawing candidature is March 26.
I Abenjang of the NPP, Chalukumba Ao of the Congress, and four independents – Imchatoba Imchen, Imtiwapang, Toshikaba, and Wapangmeren – filed their nominations before the returning officer on Monday.
The ruling Peoples’ Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate, Daochier I Imchen of the BJP, had submitted his papers on Friday.
The by-election was necessitated following the death of his father and five-time MLA, Imkong L Imchen. Imcheng, a BJP MLA, passed away at a Guwahati hospital on November 11 at the age of 75.
