March 5, New Delhi: Australia and Canada have signed new agreements on critical minerals, following a landmark address by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to the Australian Parliament on Wednesday.
Speaking about Carney's address in Parliament, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that the speech represented the close ties between the two nations.
He also stated that both countries are middle powers in a changing world and have decided to support each other.
In his subsequent address, Mark Carney echoed this sentiment, stating that in a world of great power rivalry, middle powers have a choice: to compete for favour or to combine for strength.
Carney's visit to Australia included the first address to Australia's parliament by a Canadian leader since 2007.
On the agreement on critical minerals, Albanese said that Australia would join Canada's G7 critical minerals production alliance, an initiative to diversify and secure global critical minerals production and supply.
